The Office of National Security (ONS) and the National Assembly Standing Committee on Defence and Security, May 4th began a stakeholders’ consultation on the National Security Council Bill. The move marks a pivotal moment in ensuring effective security service delivery in The Gambia.
Established in 2017 under President Adama Barrow’s leadership, ONS strives to align the security sector with citizen needs, fostering stability and global peace.
The National Security Council Bill is a milestone in The Gambia’s Security Sector Reform (SSR) process. The proposed legislation underscores ONS’ commitment to rebuilding the nation’s security institutions and enhancing national security. It reinforces the country’s National Security Policy, emphasizing coordination, collaboration, and partnership between the security sector and the National Assembly.
Officials of the ONS expressed gratitude to their partners from the Ministry of Justice for their invaluable support in drafting this significant Bill.
The Office also commends the National Assembly Standing Committee on Defence and Security for its continual oversight and support, alongside its international and local partners contributing to the SSR process.
