On October 24, 2024, a high-level meeting was held at the Office of National Security (ONS) in Banjul to discuss the next steps in implementing The Gambia’s commitments under the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT). Hosted by the National Security Advisor, Abubakarr Suleiman Jeng, the meeting brought together key stakeholders for detailed discussions on aligning national arms control protocols with ATT standards.
The session included an overview of procedures necessary for effective treaty implementation and a focus on areas needing alignment within The Gambia’s current system of arms transfer controls. The Ministry of Defense, in cooperation with Safer World, led the discussions to pave the way for a National Action Plan (NAP) to guide ATT adherence across relevant institutions.
This meeting marks a pivotal moment in The Gambia’s dedication to enhancing arms control and ensuring alignment with international standards.
