ONS Holds Meeting with Consultants on the Review of Security Sector Reform Strategy (SSRS) Implementation

State House, 25 October 2024 – Today, the Office of National Security (ONS) held an important meeting at State House with a team of selected consultants for review of the implementation of the Security Sector Reform Strategy (SSRS) and the development of a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) framework for the SSRS. This initiative, supported by the African Union (AU), marks the beginning of a 14-day consultancy aimed at creating a comprehensive M&E framework that will guide ONS efforts across five thematic areas of the SSRS.

The Director of Policy and Planning outlined the primary objectives of the consultancy, which include conducting a detailed review of the SSRS to identify gaps and realign project priorities toward a more human-centered security approach. With guidance from a working framework already developed by ONS, the consultants will collaborate closely with ONS staff to assess the SSR’s progress, ensure compliance with the recommendations from the post-Truth, Reconciliation, and Reparations Commission (TRRC), and align with existing SSR commitments.

This intensive review will culminate in a four-day workshop from 11 to 14 November 2024. Each day of the workshop will focus on one of the five thematic areas outlined in the SSRS. During this time, the team will conduct key interviews and review essential documentation to identify and prioritize areas for reform.

Once completed, the framework is expected to enhance ONS’s monitoring capabilities and significantly contribute to its goal of establishing a secure and resilient national security framework. This initiative reaffirms ONS’s commitment to a progressive approach to security sector reform.
